Longevity of Nexus One

By

The last time I was looking at a phone upgrade, the most important thing to me was how long the phone was going to last before I wanted to get another phone. There were so many competing phones at the time, I knew I would have a really hard time deciding. There are a few major things we talk about when we want to figure out how long a phone will really last. We want to know:

1) What is the phone running? (Windows Mobile, Android OS, etc.)

The Nexus One runs Android. Yay!!

2) How flexible are the applications and themes?

Because the Nexus One runs Android, there are many themes and applications available to download on the Market. Another yay!! Also, if you're a developer you can "root" your phone and really do some amazing things with it!

Here's a little bit more information about the Nexus One:

Nexus One runs Android, which is based off of Linux, and Linux isn't going anywhere. Back in 2008, at the LinuxWorld Expo in San Francisco, Bob Sutor said, "No new open source operating system will 'come out of left field' and replace Linux" (http://www.sutor.com/newsite/blog-open/?p=2452). He also said that no existing open source system will take over, and Linux will continue to adapt and evolve. So far, he has been right! Linux first started as an open source project in 1983, and it has continued strong into open source Android development today. You might tell me that anything running Android technology or any Droid will have longevity, and you might be right, but so far the Nexus One was built to last.

Another thing I love about the Nexus One is the camera! Oh my how lovely are thy pixels and clarity!! Other phones boast greater pixels but if the phone can't take a good quality picture in low light, it doesn't matter. The Nexus One CAN and the pictures are amazing! The Nexus One doesn't know it's not a Nikon, I swear it has no CLUE!

Another reason why the Nexus will be around for a while is because Google announced that the N1 is the official phone for developers. Read all about it here...http://www.eweek.com/c/a/Application-Development/Google-Nexus-One-Becomes-Developer-Phone-734181/

There are forums to know about if you are a diehard developer. You will want to know about the XDA Forums where lots of Android artwork is in the making. Then, there are also the MoDaCo Forums for your geeking out pleasure.

Just a quite side note: Other phones have two cameras now, which I'm kind of getting squirmy about, but I don't wish I had the problems that some of these other phones have either.

Reviewed this again, and I still think the Nexus is one of the best phones to have.

Nicely said! The N1 has been the "phone to have" in 2010.
